{ 04 } — What makes it hard
Agri software is written for phones it will never meet.
The gap between an agritech demo and a working deployment is mostly these four things, and none of them are agronomy.
The last kilometre has no bars
Coverage at a mandi gate or a farm plot is intermittent and sometimes absent for hours. Anything that needs a live connection to record a weighment or a payment will lose the record, and the loss is found at reconciliation.
Seasonality compresses everything
A procurement system is idle for eight months and then handles a year of volume in six weeks. Load testing against an average is meaningless; the only number that matters is peak arrival day at a single yard.
The user may not read the interface
Local-language text is the minimum, and for a meaningful share of users it is not enough. Icon-led flows, voice prompts, and numeric confirmation matter more than any feature on the roadmap.
Trust is established at the weighbridge
A farmer who cannot see the weight, the grade, and the amount at the moment they are recorded will not trust the receipt that follows. Transparency at capture is what makes the rest of the platform adoptable.
{ 05 } — What you have to get right
Traceability is what the buyer at the other end is paying for.
For anything moving toward export or organised retail, the value of field data is that it can be traced back. APEDA's export requirements and buyer audit protocols both ask the same question — which lot came from which plot, harvested when, treated with what — and that chain is only as good as the capture discipline at the first hop.
Payments carry their own obligations. Direct farmer payment flows touch NPCI's rules and, where a scheme or a bank is involved, the record-keeping expectations that come with it. A payment recorded on paper and entered later is where disputes originate.
